Among the leaders in tax-free sales
Lappeenranta is the number one destination for Russian ‘shopping tourists’, and its share of tax-free sales is the second largest in Finland. The newer invoice refund system is also growing in popularity. One in every three euros spent by Russians in Finland stays in Lappeenranta.
According to studies and surveys carried out by the Finnish Customs, growth is to be expected in sales to tourists. Russians keep coming to Lappeenranta to shop, and the number of sales is still almost as high as the year before.
Of all the municipalities in Southeastern Finland, Lappeenranta has suffered the smallest drop in its share of tax-free sales. People come to Lappeenranta to buy groceries, in particular, but also clothes, kitchenware and shoes.
